History of Le Forban Sécurité Mer

Founded in 1969

If the nineteen-fifties were marked by the rise of scuba diving as a leisure activity, it was also a time when the French Navy started to launch tenders for water resistant and reliable wristwatches to issue to its divers and its maritime pilots and crews. Among the various timepieces of the past, many former sailors and divers will remember a model that they wore, starting in 1969, with its bold name, its evocative logo and its strong personality: Le Forban Sécurité Mer. The brand has been revived in 2019 by Océane Jolivet and Jean-Sébastien Coste, two watches enthusiasts: "While browsing in an antique shop one day, we came across a Le Forban Sécurité Mer watch, we were taken as much with its name as its old-school design. We did some research and discovered that the brand, although long forgotten, had a very interesting history. We decided to relaunch the brand and created a new range, taking its inspiration from Le Forban Sécurité Mer models of the sixties and seventies, in order to meet the needs of a younger clientele, for whom most desirable watches are out of reach financially." Because a legend never dies, the timepieces which, starting in 1969, were proudly worn by sailors of the French Navy, are back since 2019. 50 years after its launch and with around 20 models bearing the name since then – mainly sold in nautical equipment shops, Le Forban Sécurité Mer® has been revived in 2019 by three watches with three new models : the Malouine, the Brestoise & the Rochelaise.
